Birds
I have taken to watching birds or rather, searching for them in the empty sky. Unlike with AI, I am not promised an answer when I look. It feels like fishing without a hook. The search often begins with a sound in the high arcing and densely foliaged boughs of a tree. I look, but there is nothing to see. Like when you lose your earring on the ground, you glance around and see only the floor. Then as if by chance, the earring suddenly appears out of nowhere, with a fanfare that cannot be ignored. Once seen, it cannot be unseen. What was lost is found. Now replaces then. And you never quite experience the same world the same way again.

You only think you found them, mate, but the truth is,
the birds found you :)
Jed, I see that philosophy course in these newer pieces! I love these lines-- Once seen, it cannot be unseen. What was lost is found. Now replaces then. And you never quite experience the same world the same way again.
I esp. love the last line.
In meditation, there have been lessons on this idea of newness, that each moment, each breath is new.
I've been thinking, wondering what I've done in the last 10 years of my life, trying to make sense of it. Focusing on newness.....
You know what? On my good days, and most of them seem pretty good, I am constantly exclaiming about how marvelous/amazing things are. Simple things. Last things.
I think my steady state is one of quiet joy.
